How to install a fiber optic sensor amplifier

Optical fiber sensor amplifiers can be installed on a DIN rail, with fibers securely inserted into the sensor ports, followed by proper electrical connection and configuration for reliable object detection.

Mechanical Mounting

Most optical fiber amplifiers, such as the OCF series, are designed for DIN rail mounting. To install: Hook the top of the amplifier onto the DIN rail and press the bottom until it clips into place. Some models offer angle brackets (e.g., E21328) for alternative mounting.

Spring-loaded locating lugs on certain amplifiers allow one-hand installation.

Fiber Connection

Insert the fiber optic cable into the corresponding sensor hole until it reaches the end stop, which locks it in place. Both 1mm and 2mm diameter fibers can be used; 1mm fibers require insertion into a smaller hole for secure locking. For fibers with screw adaptation (e.g., FT-00, FE-00), an adapter like E21327 may be required.

To remove fibers, press the release button and gently pull out the fiber.

Electrical Connection

Ensure the power is disconnected before wiring. Connect the amplifier according to national and international electrical regulations (e.g., EN 50178, SELV, PELV),. Only qualified personnel should perform electrical connections.

Configuration and Operation

Many amplifiers feature OLED displays and guided menus for easy configuration. Set the sensitivity using automatic or manual modes: Automatic with object: Place the object and press the OUT button to set detection. Automatic without object: Press OUT off to set baseline.

Adjust pulse stretching and output timing as needed for your application. Some amplifiers provide dual displays, teachable LED intensity, and totalizer functions for high-speed or transparent object detection.

Fiber Selection Tips

Use glass fibers for high-temperature applications and plastic fibers for high-flex or continuous movement. Ensure fibers are routed to the measuring points where objects or positions are detected.

Maintenance and Reliability

Regularly check fiber connections and amplifier settings to maintain optimal performance and high system availability. Non-contact sensing ensures minimal wear and long service life. By following these steps, the optical fiber sensor amplifier will be securely mounted, properly connected, and configured for accurate and reliable object detection in industrial environments.
