How to wire the two sockets in the distribution box

Socket circuits in a distribution box are wired by connecting the phase and neutral wires from the main supply through protective devices like MCBs and RCCBs, with proper earthing and labeling for safety. Step 1: Plan the CircuitIdentify the number of socket outlets and their locations. Each socket circuit should have its own MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) to protect against overloads.

For domestic installations, 13A or 16A MCBs are commonly used for socket circuits ( ). Step 2: Select Wire SizeUse 2. 5mm² copper wires for standard socket circuits.

For higher loads, such as air conditioners, 4mm² wires may be required ( ). Ensure the wires are rated for the expected current. Step 3: Connect to the Distribution BoxMain Supply Connection: Connect the incoming phase and neutral wires to the Main MCB or main switch.

RCC

B Connection: If using an RCCB for protection against leakage currents, connect the output of the Main MCB to the input of the RCCB.

Branch MC

Bs: Connect the output of the RCCB to the input terminals of the socket MCBs.

Each MC

B will control a separate socket circuit ( ). Step 4: Wiring the SocketsConnect the phase wire from the MCB output to the live terminal of the socket. Connect the neutral wire from the neutral bus bar to the neutral terminal of the socket.

Connect the earth wire from the earth bus bar to the socket's earth terminal. Ensure all connections are tight and secure to prevent overheating or loose contacts ( ). Step 5: Organize and LabelRoute wires neatly inside the distribution box, using plastic ties to keep them straight and organized.

Label each MCB and wire to indicate the circuit it controls, including voltage and type (AC/DC) if applicable ( ). Step 6: Safety InspectionAfter wiring, perform a safety check to ensure there are no short circuits, loose connections, or overload risks. Test each socket circuit individually to confirm proper operation and protection ( ).

Additional Tips

Always turn off the main power supply before starting any wiring work. Follow local electrical codes and standards for wire sizing, breaker ratings, and installation practices. Consider consulting a licensed electrician if unsure about any step, as improper wiring can cause electrical hazards.

By following these steps, you can safely wire socket circuits in a distribution box while ensuring proper protection, organization, and compliance with safety standards.
