Tray-type cable tray process

A tray-type cable tray is made by selecting the right material, cutting and forming a solid-bottom tray, and securely mounting it to support electrical cables safely and efficiently. Step 1: Plan and DesignBefore fabrication, plan the cable tray route and determine the required tray width, depth, and length based on the number and type of cables, load capacity, and spacing requirements. Consider environmental factors such as exposure to moisture, chemicals, or heat, which will influence material selection.

Step 2: Select MaterialTray-type cable trays can be made from galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, or FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic). Choose a material based on strength, corrosion resistance, and weight. For example, aluminum offers excellent corrosion resistance and is lightweight, while stainless steel provides superior durability in harsh environments.

Step 3: Fabricate the TrayCut the sheet metal to the desired width and length for the tray bottom. Bend the edges upward to form side rails, typically 2–4 inches high, to create a rigid tray structure. Reinforce the tray with cross members or stiffeners if needed, especially for longer spans or heavier cable loads.

Optionally, add a solid cover to protect cables from dust or mechanical damage. Step 4: Prepare Mounting SupportsInstall brackets, hangers, or wall mounts at regular intervals (usually 1. 5–3 meters apart) to support the tray.

Ensure the supports are level and aligned to prevent sagging. Step 5: Assemble and InstallPlace the tray on the supports and secure it using bolts, clamps, or connectors. Ensure all joints are properly aligned and fastened.

If multiple tray sections are used, connect them with splice plates or couplers to maintain structural integrity. Step 6: Cable InstallationLay cables inside the tray, maintaining proper spacing and bend radius to prevent overheating or damage. Use cable ties or separators if necessary to organize and secure the cables.

Step 7: Inspection and MaintenanceCheck the tray for level alignment, secure fastenings, and load distribution. Periodically inspect for corrosion, loose fittings, or cable wear to ensure long-term safety and performance. By following these steps, you can create a durable, safe, and efficient tray-type cable tray suitable for industrial or commercial electrical installations.
