Relay Protection TBJHBJ

700-TBJ jumpers are used to interconnect relay terminals in protective relay systems, with specific types for SPDT and DPDT relays, and can be trimmed and insulated using 700-HN177 end barriers.

Overview of Relay Protection

Protective relays are devices designed to detect abnormal conditions in electrical systems, such as overcurrent, overvoltage, or reverse power flow, and trip circuit breakers to isolate faults quickly, ensuring system stability and safety. Modern relays include microprocessor-based digital or numerical relays, which combine multiple protection functions, self-testing, and communication capabilities, reducing the need for multiple electromechanical devices. Relay protection design must consider the type of equipment (generator, transformer, bus, line) and coordinate with system operation to achieve reliability, speed, and security.

700-TBJ JumpersThe 700-TBJ series jumpers are used to connect relay terminals in Allen-Bradley 700-HL relays, facilitating wiring and control in protection circuits. Key points include: Types and Ratings: 700-TBJ08: Used with 2-pole (DPDT) relays, rated 10A max. 700-TBJ20: Used with SPDT relays, rated 36A max.

Color-coded versions (G, R, B) are available for identification. Usage: SPDT relays: 700-TBJ20 jumpers connect A1, A2, NO, and COM terminals.

DPD

T relays: 700-TBJ08 jumpers connect A1 and A2 terminals; NO and COM terminals allow one connection per relay. Customization: Both 700-TBJ08 and 700-TBJ20 jumpers can be cut to fit specific relay arrangements. Insulation and Safety: After cutting, the 700-HN177 end barrier is used to cover exposed copper and maintain safe spacing between relay blocks.

Installation: Jumpers fit in slots below screw terminal openings, not inside the terminals themselves. Installation instructions (sheet 41063-042-01) provide trimming and barrier placement guidance.

Practical Considerations

Ensure the jumper type matches the relay configuration (SPDT vs DPDT). Use end barriers to prevent accidental contact and maintain proper spacing. Follow manufacturer instructions for trimming and installation to maintain electrical safety and system reliability.

Integrate jumpers as part of a coordinated relay protection scheme to ensure fast fault isolation and minimize system disruption. By using 700-TBJ jumpers correctly, protective relay systems can achieve efficient wiring, reliable operation, and enhanced safety, while modern relay technology ensures multifunctional protection and monitoring capabilities.

Electromechanical relays can be classified into several different types as follows: "Armature"-type relays have a pivoted lever supported on a hinge or knife-edge pivot, which carries a moving contact. These relays may work on either alternating or direct current, but for alternating current, a shading coil on the pole is used to maintain contact force throughout the alternating current cycle. Because the air gap between t
