Optical Module lc Sequence

LC optical modules use a duplex fiber arrangement where proper Tx/Rx alignment is ensured by connector polarity and duplex cabling standards.

Overview of L

C Optical ModulesLC (Lucent Connector) is a small form-factor duplex connector widely used in SFP transceivers and high-density network environments, supporting speeds from 10G to 400G and beyond.

Each L

C module has two fibers: one for transmit (Tx) and one for receive (Rx). The connector ensures precise alignment of the fiber core with the optical transmitter and receiver inside the SFP module, which is critical for minimizing insertion loss and maintaining signal integrity.

Duplex Fiber Sequence

In a standard LC duplex setup: Tx fiber of the module connects to the Rx fiber of the opposite module. Rx fiber of the module connects to the Tx fiber of the opposite module. This arrangement forms a complete optical link for bidirectional communication.

Duplex L

C cables are typically color-coded (blue for single-mode UPC, beige for multimode, aqua for OM3/OM4) and may use key-up/key-down orientation to maintain proper polarity. Polarity ConsiderationsLC optical modules follow polarity standards to ensure correct Tx/Rx alignment: Type A (Straight-Through): Tx on one end connects directly to Rx on the other end. Type B (Crossed): Tx and Rx fibers are reversed at one end.

Type C (Pair-Flipped): Individual fiber pairs are flipped rather than reversing the entire set.

For L

C duplex cables, Type A polarity is most common in SFP deployments, allowing direct connection between two modules without additional patching or adapters.

SFP Module Integration

Inside an SFP module, the LC connector aligns the fiber core with the Transmitter Optical Sub-Assembly (TOSA) and Receiver Optical Sub-Assembly (ROSA). Proper sequence ensures: Accurate light coupling from the laser diode to the fiber. Correct reception of incoming optical signals.

Prevention of signal interference or module damage. The gold finger pin sequence in SFP modules also ensures safe power-up and signal integrity, with ground pins first, followed by power, and then data signals.

Practical Deployment Tips

Always verify Tx/Rx orientation before connecting modules. Use duplex LC patch cables with consistent polarity type across the network.

Clean L

C connectors regularly to reduce insertion loss.

Match the SF

P module type (10G, 25G, 100G, etc.) with the fiber type (single-mode or multimode) for optimal performance. By following these guidelines, LC optical modules can maintain reliable, high-speed data transmission in enterprise, data center, and telecom networks.
